I arrived in Bristol to spend Christmas and New Year with my father. We ate well and had a few glasses of wine but otherwise it was a quiet time. The main event was a visit to the Royal Photographic Society Headquarters in Bath to see an exhibition of a selection of the hundreds of photos of Wild Orchids that my father had taken over the last few decades. The exhibition was in a light bright room and had apparently been very favourable received – he has been asked to present another program there for some of the visitors in early January. Although the RPS often features more abstract images my fathers were apparently very well received because of their basic simplicity and beauty.
I managed to visit Achaladeva and Isla in Bristol for home cooked Fajitas, and Shakyakumara in Bath for a beautifully presented Thai meal, and my father and I visited his cousins near Birmingham. It was cold but we managed two walks in the brilliant winter light along the canal in Bath and through the woods of a Nature reserve in North Somerset.
