Peter has been our neighbour at Guhyaloka for twenty years and came regularly, for a few days at a time, to read, reflect, and enjoy the tranquillity of the valley. Unfortunately because of illness he has recently had to give up his regular visits and has offered me the use of his house until April 2024. I am deeply grateful for his kindness and generosity, and excited by the prospect of being able to move back to Guhyaloka and explore a ‘renunciant life’ in the mountains. What this means exactly I do not yet know, but I have recently become increasingly clear that this kind of life – of freedom and simplicity – is what I have always been trying to create.
What is especially valuable is that I will be living so close to the Guhyaloka community and retreat centre and so I’ll have good spiritual friends close at hand; and, since many of my male friends will at some time or another visit Guhyaloka I will be able to enjoy their company. I aim to live simply and quietly but not in isolation from others.
I’ll be writing about how this all develops on this blog.
