Traveled through the Harecastle Tunnel today. Just under two miles long and very low in the middle – actually much less dramatic than I thought it might be- although it later turned out that I damaged my cratch cover frame and zip which may have happened in the tunnel. Wandered about the small town of Kidsgrove, a friend’s birthplace, and along the Macclesfield Canal which branches off – and crosses over – the Trent and Mersey at this point. Both canals are bright orange as a result of mineral deposits in the tunnel.
