On Saturday I rode into Nantwich to do some shopping and on Sunday I had two visitors – my cousin Ellie, her husband Mick and their lovely spaniel Cleo came by en route to Kent, from their holiday home in the Lake district; and then a couple who I’d met a year ago came by, saw my boat and, after mooring below the Hurleston Flight, walked up to have a chat. We’d had a very pleasant meeting on the Stratford canal just outside Birmingham last year. Today I set off along the Llangollen – it is a very pleasant canal – lots of good places to moor and quiet countryside well away from roads and villages. The autumn colours were still in evidence and the canal – now that the season is over – was quiet. I saw only a couple of boats.
