Although I live alone at Uttaraloka other members of the Triratna Buddhist Order come to stay with me from time to time – especially for the three-month retreats in the spring and autumn. Living with just a few other men for three months means that you get to know them very well and appreciate each person’s particular qualities. One of the joys of my time here has been to realize that everyone is completely unique. I’ve discovered that – like any rare object – each individual is valuable, interesting and indeed lovable. This is true even when they do not conform to my requirements.
Here are some the gems I’ve enjoyed over the last few years and some for whom I also have feelings of gratitude for their valuable contributions to establishing this beautiful place where I live.
